Idols... they exist among us as people, hobbies, money, time, food, etc. Idolatry was and still is a problem that God is not a fan of. Idols can be so subtle that we don’t even realize we have allowed ourselves to invest more in something or someone other than God.
In Exodus 20:1-17 the Ten Commandments were released. Verses 4-6 are focused on God telling the Israelites to not bow down to or serve any statues or anything that is in the heavens, earth, or sea. Basically anything or anyone one that is not him. He then reveals himself as Jehovah Kanna, a jealous God.
We see all types of jealousy today, but much of it tends to be far from the jealousy God embodies. He loves us so much that he doesn’t want us distracted and drawn away by the many things of this world.
As we continue to honor God, take some time to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the idols that you have placed above God. Ask for forgiveness, repent, and be intentional about magnifying God in that area of your life. Remember he gave his all so that we can be his even after we’ve dismissed or rejected him. Why not return the favor by making him the priority of our lives?!?
