a stone that forms the base of a corner of a building, joining two walls.
When I think of a cornerstone I think of the glue that bonds something together. In Ephesians 2, we are given a clear image of Christ and his position as the son of God. Paul writes to the church of Ephesus about Christ coming to the world as a peacemaker and savior. He goes on to give countless examples of how Christ’s existence is the foundation of our faith. Paul goes on to emphasize how we are the building, apostles and prophets are the foundation, and Jesus being apart of the foundation is the cornerstone that connects us all.
Sometimes we diminish the significance of Jesus’s role in the church, but we must understand that there is no church without him. Imagine a building losing its cornerstone and deteriorating. In the same way, believers without Christ will not and cannot stand. Ephesians 2 is the reminder we all need to never forget how Christ connects all children of God.
Read Ephesians 2 and meditate on how Jesus is the cornerstone of the church. Think about how Christ’s position has brought so many of us together. Now praise God, for Jesus being the the cornerstone that unites us in him!
