Wonder Woman Reflection: Know Your Identity In Christ and Walk In It!
Yesterday, I finally saw Wonder Woman and although there are many mini sermons that can be found in the movie, there is one that I find to be so relevant today in the church. Wonder Woman was brought up as an average Amazon woman, but it soon became evident that she was not average at all. As she went to battle another god, she kept fighting like an Amazon woman. Even after being told she was actually a god, she struggled to battle. She thought like an Amazon woman, so she fought like an Amazon woman rather than using the power she had as a god. It was not until she received revelation through a painful incident that she was indeed more than just an Amazon woman and that she had a power within herself that allowed her to defeat the god she struggled to fight.
My first thought was, " How many believers are living like average people and not operating in the fullness of who God created them to be?" The greatest hindrance believers face is not knowing their identity. Many walk the earth as if they have no power and authority to do the things which Jesus did while on this earth. We need to gain an understanding of who we are in Christ. Sometimes the revelation comes through a challenging circumstance, but we don't always have to go through an experience to know how powerful God has created us to be.
So, you may be wondering how to find your identity in Christ. Here are 3 steps that may help your process:
Step 1: Gain a clear understanding of who God is by reading His word and building relationship. Wonder Woman functioned off stories so she never fully knew about her creator and creation process. Not knowing her creator for herself prevented her from knowing who she was.
Step 2: Study the gifts that have been made available to us and practice operating in them. Wonder Woman did this well, but she never identified all her gifting so she operated at a mediocre level.
Step 3: Embrace the identity God has given us and move boldly. Even after finding out she was a god, Wonder Woman was still in denial. We sit in the church all day being empowered, but the real change comes with accepting the fact that we are not just average people. We have to apply what we know by taking steps of faith and doing things that we know God has given us the power to do.
Overall, Wonder Woman has created an opportunity for us to look into our lives and reflect on our identity. I hope this challenges you to follow the 3 steps above because there is a battle taking place on earth everyday, but many battles have not been won due to the body of Christ not operating in our full identity. No matter how young or old you are God needs you on the battlefield. He's allowed you to still be here in hopes that you will come to the knowledge of who you are in Christ and begin to operate in your true identity!
