Purpose > Preference!
How many times have we allowed ourselves to be in relationships because it was convenient or the other person embodied a few qualities we like? If God created us for purpose why wouldn't he position us to become one with someone for purpose? Rather than understanding our own purpose and positioning ourselves to be with someone who shares that same purpose we stop at "Well they're saved and place more value on their looks, jobs, nationalities or other things that we'd prefer to have in a mate.
In Matthew 6:33, we are instructed to "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). Our number 1 priority is God and his will for our lives. By placing God first, we surrender our desires and preferences to his desires and preferences for us. Psalm 37:4 tells us to "delight [ourselves] in the Lord, and he will give [us] the desires of [our] heart"(Psalm 37:4). Knowing this and remembering that God has already established a plan for our lives that gives us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11) is all the more reason we should consider purpose over preference when choosing a mate.
