Happy Loving All Day, Everyday!
Oh Valentine’s Day! How I used to hate it. Simply because I never had the opportunity to celebrate it…Well, in the way that I believed It was meant to be celebrated. I’d see the couples and think "Ugh, not again," as if they were just trying to flaunt their relationship in front of me. At one point, I grew to love the idea of it and dreamed about it being my wedding day. It’s safe to say the Lord clearly did not feel the same!
I soon realized it was never meant to be limited to the affections between lovers. God gave me the revelation that it wasn’t the title of couple that made it special, but the act of loving. It is the one day that you could consistently see sacrifices being made to see joy on someone else’s face. It is the day where many say it’s not what you can do for me, but what I can do for you. It is a day of selflessness that many go above and beyond to show, which led me to my next concern...Why must it be limited to a single day?
John 13:34-35 reads, “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.” How amazing life would be if we showed love for others beyond this particular day? Consider this…God gave this commandment first and man glorified this day 2nd...Which one do you believe is the one we should abide by?
Showing love to one another was commanded to be a lifestyle for us. Loving should be demonstrated daily towards those we do and don’t know. So, let your love for others go beyond a day and transform the lives of others from day-to-day.
